Anders Eklund

I work as a professor of Biomedical Engineering at Umeå University and at CMTS Biomedical engineering R&D. My research is focused on measurements and modeling fluid mechanical properties of the eye and brain. Together with the neurologist Jan Malm I lead an internationally well-known research group in the field of hydrocephalus. As a main applicant, I have over the years received research grants of more than 5 million Euros from funders such as the Swedish Research Council, the Swedish Space Agency, the Foundation for Strategic Research, Vinnova and others. I have a collaboration with Nasa scientists related to disturbances in the brain pressure / eye of astronauts. In 2008 I was one of the founders of the International Society of Hydrocephalus and CSF problems (ISHCSF) and have been a board member, secretary/treasurer and had other tasks within the association. Since 2015 I have been a member of the Editorial Board for Fluid and Barriers of the CNS and since 2017 a member of the Faculty Board for the Faculty of Medicine at Umeå University. I am a member of CMTS Biomedical engineering R&D management team.

Education and positions
I have a Master of science in engineering physics from Chalmers (1993) with a main focus on mechanics and fluid mechanics. I defended my dissertation at the Department of Radiation Sciences, Umeå University in 2002 (PhD in Biomedical Engineering). Associate Professor (2005), Adjunct Professor (2012) and Full Professor (2014), all in Biomedical Engineering and at Radiation Sciences, UmU. In parallel I have worked at CMTS Biomedical engineering R&D since 1995 and ongoing.

Research and development projects
Current research projects target the glymphatic system, hydrocephalus, stroke, glaucoma, idiopathic intracranial hypertension, and eye problems in astronauts.

Scientific publications
See publication list on Umeå University website.
