Information about the bus accident on E45

A large bus accident happened along the E45 on Saturday November 22. Region Västerbotten has taken care of those who were injured.

Region Västerbotten has cared for 56 people in total. The injuries have ranged from minor to severe. No one has experienced any life-threatening injuries.

All of the patients have been discharged.

Region Västerbotten can only answer questions about the patients’ condition and how we have handled the incident. Due to patient confidentiality, we can’t give any information about the patients’ nationality.

This is an approximate timeline of Region Västerbotten’s actions during the accident. 

November 28 13.30

The last two remaining patients from the accident have been discharged from University Hospial of Umeå.

November 25 15.00

Two patients are still being treated at University Hospital of Umeå. The rest of the patients from the accident have been discharged.

November 24 16.00 

Region Västerbotten is still treating eight people from the accident. Three are being treated at Lycksele Hospital and five at University Hospital of Umeå. 

November 23 18.00 

Most of the patients have been discharged. Region Västerbotten is still treating eight patients. Three are being treated at Lycksele Hospital and five at University Hospital of Umeå. 

Lycksele has gone back to normal readiness level. 

November 23 9.45 

23 patients are still in need of care after the accident. Their injuries range from moderate to severe. 

14 patients are being treated at Lycksele Hospital, five at Umeå University Hospital, one at Östersund Hospital and three at Storuman cottage hospital. 

Lycksele Hospital has decreased its readiness level to preparedness mode. That means that they are following the situation. 

November 22 17.30 

Region Västerbotten has received all patients from the accident. Most passengers have minor injuries and those with more severe injuries are being taken to hospitals.  

Storuman cottage hospital and Vilhelmina cottage hospital has taken care of a large number of patients with minor injuries. Some of these have later been sent to hospitals.  

Lycksele Hospital has taken care of 15 patients and University Hospital of Umeå has taken care of one. One patient is being treated at Östersund Hospital. The patients who are being treated at hospitals have injuries ranging from moderate to severe. No one has any life-threatening injuries.  

Lycksele Hospital decreases its readiness level to reinforcement mode and University Hospital of Umeå is back to normal readiness level. 

November 22 13.30 

Everyone who was injured during the accident has been taken care of and are being transported to care. No one has any life-threatening injuries at this point. 

Region Västerbotten is still working on getting a complete view of the situation. Patients with minor injuries are being taken to nearby cottage hospitals. Patients in need of hospital care are being taken to Lycksele Hospital and University Hospital of Umeå. One patient has been taken to Östersund Hospital. 

Region Västerbotten has a good capacity to take care of those in need of hospital care. 

November 22 10.00 

University Hospital of Umeå increases its readiness level to reinforcement mode, the second highest level of readiness. It means that certain functions at the hospital is reinforced and that measures are being taken to make room for more patients. 

November 22 9.00 

Lycksele Hospital increases its readiness level to disaster mode, the highest level of readiness. It means that all resources possible are gathered to handle the situation. 

November 22 8.49 

Region Västerbotten receives information that a bus with many passengers has driven off the road along the E45.
