Health and medical care professions that require a licence

In health care, there are 21 professions that require a license. To be able to work in such a profession, you need to have a Swedish license. It is the National Board of Health and Welfare that can give you permission to work in a licensed profession in healthcare. They assess whether your education is comparable to Swedish requirements and whether you need to supplement the education. You must be able to certify that you have good knowledge of the Swedish language. Health and medical care professions that do not require a licence

For professions that do not require a licence, such as assistant nurse, dental nurse and medical secretary, we recommend that you contact the Swedish Council for Higher Education. They will make an assessment of your foreign education.

Introductory course

Karolinska Institutet has developed training courses to make it easier for people with education from countries outside the EU/EEA in the process of obtaining a Swedish licence.
